Switching the Front Passenger's Front Airbag On and Off

In the Volkswagen ID.4, the front passenger's front airbag must always be deactivated when installing a rear-facing child restraint system on the front passenger seat. Always follow country-specific regulations regarding child seat use in the front seat.
In some markets, the front passenger airbag cannot be manually switched off using a key switch. In such cases, deactivation can only be carried out by qualified professionals. Volkswagen recommends contacting an authorized Volkswagen dealer or Volkswagen Service Facility.

In the Volkswagen ID.4, the yellow indicator light confirming activation of the front passenger airbag illuminates for approximately 60 seconds after the ignition is switched on or after the airbag is manually activated → fig. 2, and then switches off automatically.
This indicates that the front passenger airbag is active and ready to provide protection.
1. Always verify whether the front passenger airbag should remain activated based on occupancy and seating conditions.

1. Confirm that deactivation is appropriate, for example when using a child seat in the front passenger position.
Switching on the front passenger's front airbag
1. Switch the ignition off.
2. Open the front passenger door of the Volkswagen ID.4.
3. Fully extend the key bit of the vehicle key.
Or: Remove the emergency key from the remote key (→ Vehicle key).
4. Insert the key into the key switch until resistance is felt for a second time → fig. 1.

5. Turn the vehicle key carefully to the designated ON position →

4. Insert the key into the key switch until resistance is felt → fig. 1.
