Assembly overview - bulkhead

Removing and installing bulkhead

Removing

• Pull off clamping washers -2-.
• Remove bulkhead insulation -3- in upper area of bulkhead -1-.

For remaining procedure, fresh air and air recirculation flap - VX96- must be closed. To assure this, proceed as follows:

• Switch on ignition.
• Close fresh air and air recirculation flap by pressing "air recirculation mode" button on display and control panel.
• Disconnect electrical connector -1-.
• Switch off ignition.

• Unscrew nuts -1-.

• Pull plenum chamber cover upwards, while simultaneously loosening retaining hooks -arrows- of cover -1- for fresh air intake -3-.
• Remove cover -1- for fresh air intake -3- from bulkhead -2-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

• Inspect gasket of cover for fresh air intake for damage.
• Fit cover for fresh air intake, making sure that fasteners engage audibly.

Tightening torques

Removing and installing plenum chamber cover

Removing

• Remove wiper arms ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 92 ; Windscreen wiper system; Removing and installing wiper arms .
• Pull off seal -3- along entire length of plenum chamber cover -1-.
• Push plenum chamber covers at side -2- in direction of -arrow A-, and pull out plenum chamber cover -1-.
• Pull plenum chamber cover -1- in direction of -arrow B- out of windscreen seal -4-.
• Remove plenum chamber cover -1- by guiding it over wiper arm shafts.
• Remove plenum chamber covers at side -2-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

If windscreen has been renewed:

• Remove insert from windscreen seal.

NOTICE

Risk of windscreen damage from plenum chamber cover striking windscreen surround.

The windscreen may crack.

• Never strike plenum chamber cover or press in with aid of tool.
• Press plenum chamber cover into windscreen surround by hand while applying light pressure.
• Spray windscreen seal with a soapy solution so that plenum chamber cover is easier to press in.
• Position plenum chamber cover at windscreen seal, and align it centrally.
• Starting from outside, press plenum chamber cover into windscreen seal by applying light pressure
