Volkswagen ID.4: Loading the roof rack

Maximum permissible roof weight

The maximum allowable roof load for the Volkswagen ID.4 is 75 kg (165 lbs).

This includes both the weight of the roof rack system and the cargo placed on it → Volkswagen ID.4 roof load weight calculation illustration.

Always verify the combined weight of the roof rack and transported items. If necessary, weigh the cargo before loading.

If the roof rack itself has a lower load rating, never exceed the limit specified in its installation instructions, even if the vehicle's maximum roof load is higher.

Distributing the load

Distribute the load evenly across the roof rack and secure it properly → Volkswagen ID.4 roof rack load distribution diagram.

Checking that everything is secure

After installing the roof rack on the Volkswagen ID.4, drive a short distance and recheck all mounting points and fasteners. Continue to inspect them regularly during longer trips → Volkswagen ID.4 roof rack safety check after installation.

WARNING

Exceeding the permissible roof load or vehicle weight limits can compromise stability and result in accidents, serious injuries, or death.

  • Never exceed the maximum roof load, axle loads, or gross vehicle weight rating of the Volkswagen ID.4.
  • Do not exceed the load capacity specified by the roof rack manufacturer.

WARNING

Loose or improperly secured cargo on the roof rack may fall off and cause accidents or serious injuries.

  • Always use suitable and undamaged securing straps or fastening systems.

NOTICE

If the trunk lid comes into contact with the roof load, damage to the Volkswagen ID.4 may occur.

  • Ensure sufficient clearance when opening the trunk lid.

  • All maintenance and repair work must be carried out by authorized Volkswagen service specialists.
  • Avoid using cutting tools, heat sources, or sharp objects near high-voltage components.

DANGER

Damage to the high-voltage battery in the Volkswagen ID.4 may cause the release of toxic gases or liquids, which can lead to fire hazards and life-threatening injuries.

  • Do not inhale gases emitted from a damaged high-voltage battery.
  • Avoid contact with any leaking fluids.
  • In case of fire, evacuate immediately and notify emergency services.
  • Inform emergency responders that the vehicle is equipped with a high-voltage battery.

The high-voltage battery may be damaged in the event of a collision or impact.

  • After an accident, have the Volkswagen ID.4 inspected by qualified professionals.
  • If the high-voltage system is deactivated, the vehicle is not ready for operation and must be secured and serviced.

The Volkswagen ID.4 integrates advanced electric technology with practical transport solutions, but safe usage requires careful adherence to all installation, loading, and safety guidelines.
