Before performing any maintenance or inspection in the hood space of the Volkswagen ID.4, it is essential to follow a strict preparation sequence to ensure maximum safety and prevent unintended vehicle behavior → Volkswagen ID.4 preparation steps before working in hood space safety illustration:

1. Park the Volkswagen ID.4 securely on a firm, level, and stable surface (→ Parking).

2. Remove the remote control vehicle key from inside the Volkswagen ID.4 and store it outside the vehicle to prevent accidental activation of the drive system.

3. Ensure that all other persons remain at a safe distance from the hood space.

Opening and closing the hood

Opening the hood

1. Open the driver’s door and pull the hood release lever in the direction of the arrow → fig. 1. The hood of the Volkswagen ID.4 will unlock and slightly lift due to spring tension from the latch mechanism → Volkswagen ID.4 hood partially released after pulling lever.

2. Lift the hood slightly and simultaneously press the secondary release lever in the direction of the arrow → fig. 2 to fully open it.

3. Remove the hood support from its holder → fig. 3 and secure it in the designated opening → fig. 4 to hold the hood safely in place.

Closing the hood

1. Slightly lift the hood of the Volkswagen ID.4 and hold it securely.

2. Unhook the support rod from the opening → fig. 4 and return it to its bracket → fig. 3.

3. Allow the hood to drop from a height of approximately 20 cm (8 inches) into the latch. Do not press it down manually. When properly closed, the hood should align flush with the surrounding body panels → Volkswagen ID.4 hood properly closed flush with body panels.

If the hood does not close correctly, reopen it and repeat the process carefully.

If the hood is not securely closed, a warning indicator will appear in the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit display. This warning will disappear once the hood is properly secured.

WARNING

If the hood of the Volkswagen ID.4 is not properly closed, it may open unexpectedly while driving and obstruct the driver's view, leading to accidents or serious injuries.

  • After closing, always verify that the hood latch is fully engaged.
  • If a warning appears while driving, stop the vehicle immediately in a safe location and close the hood correctly.

Careless handling when opening or closing the hood may result in injury.

  • Ensure no persons are within the closing range of the hood before operating it.

NOTICE

Improper handling of the hood may damage the hood itself or the windshield wipers of the Volkswagen ID.4.
