Volkswagen ID.4: Safety belt positioning

In the Volkswagen ID.4, safety belts provide maximum protection during a collision only when they are worn and positioned correctly. Proper belt positioning significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death and ensures that occupants remain securely in place so that airbags can function effectively. For this reason, all passengers in the Volkswagen ID.4 must always fasten their safety belts and check that they are correctly aligned → fig. 1.

Correct safety belt positioning

  • The shoulder portion of the safety belt in the Volkswagen ID.4 must lie across the middle of the shoulder and never across the neck, under the arm, over the arm, or behind the back.
  • The lap portion of the belt must always rest securely across the hips and lap area, never over the stomach.
  • The safety belt must lie flat against the body without twists. If necessary, pull the belt tighter to ensure a snug and secure fit.

Correct safety belt positioning for pregnant women

For pregnant occupants in the Volkswagen ID.4, the safety belt should be positioned so that it lies evenly across the chest and as low as possible over the lap, below the abdomen. This minimizes pressure on the lower abdomen and must be maintained throughout the entire pregnancy → fig. 2.

Adjusting the safety belt position to body size

The Volkswagen ID.4 allows the safety belt position to be adapted to different body sizes using the following features:

  • Belt height adjusters for the front seats (→ Safety belt height adjuster).
  • Height-adjustable front seats (→ Seating position).

WARNING

Incorrect safety belt positioning in the Volkswagen ID.4 can result in serious injuries during sudden braking, sharp maneuvers, or accidents.

  • Always ensure that the safety belt is correctly positioned before driving.
  • Keep the seat backrest upright and adjust the belt according to your body size for maximum protection.
  • Position the shoulder belt across the center of your shoulder and never under your arm or across your neck.
  • Ensure the belt lies flat across both the upper body and lap. Tighten if necessary.
  • The lap belt must always remain across the hips and never over the abdomen.
  • During pregnancy, ensure the belt remains low across the lap and evenly across the chest to avoid pressure on the abdomen.
  • Never twist the safety belt when fastening or wearing it.
  • Do not hold the belt away from the body while driving.
  • Avoid routing the belt over hard or fragile objects such as glasses, pens, or keys.
  • Do not modify the routing of the safety belt using clips or other accessories.

Volkswagen ID.4 safety belt adjustment assistance special modifications If a person cannot achieve correct belt positioning in the Volkswagen ID.4 due to physical conditions, it is recommended to contact an authorized Volkswagen dealer or service facility for possible modifications to ensure maximum protection from both safety belts and airbags.
