Volkswagen ID.4: Eco assist

In the Volkswagen ID.4, Eco assist supports forward-thinking driving by providing real-time information in the instrument cluster, encouraging a more efficient and energy-saving driving style.

Eco assist utilizes navigation data from the Infotainment system along with inputs from onboard sensors. If route guidance is inactive, the system intelligently predicts the most likely route to continue offering relevant assistance.

Eco assist availability may vary depending on equipment and regional specifications of the Volkswagen ID.4.

Driving with Eco assist

When approaching a speed limit, intersection, or another relevant road feature, the Volkswagen ID.4 displays symbols and additional information in the instrument cluster to inform the driver of upcoming events.

Once the driver lifts their foot from the accelerator pedal, the Volkswagen ID.4 automatically adjusts recuperation and speed. This process considers the selected driving mode and the distance to the detected event, optimizing efficiency.

The system does not actively apply the brakes. Therefore, in downhill conditions, it may not always be able to sufficiently reduce the vehicle speed in every situation.

With Eco assist active, the system can increase deceleration even without a visible prompt and adapt speed based on vehicles detected ahead.

At any time, the driver can override Eco assist in the Volkswagen ID.4 simply by pressing the accelerator pedal.

Displays

Depending on the driving situation, the Volkswagen ID.4 may display the following symbols in the instrument cluster:

Take your foot off the accelerator.

Vehicle driving ahead.

Intersection ahead.

Highway exit ahead.

Roundabout ahead.

Left turn ahead.

Right turn ahead.

Incline ahead.

Speed limit ahead, example.

The displayed symbols may vary depending on the equipment level of the Volkswagen ID.4 and can be updated through system updates.

Switching on and off

You can enable or disable Eco assist via the Assistance systems menu in the Infotainment system of the Volkswagen ID.4.

Eco assist may be temporarily deactivated in the following situations:

• The Sport driving mode is selected.
• Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) or standard cruise control is active.

Depending on driving conditions, Eco assist information may still appear even when the system is partially inactive.

If the reason for deactivation no longer applies, Eco assist will automatically reactivate, provided it remains enabled in the Infotainment system.

Eco assist in the Volkswagen ID.4 is not a substitute for driver awareness and operates within system limitations. It may not detect all situations or may respond with delays or unexpected behavior. Failure to remain attentive can lead to accidents, serious injuries, or fatal outcomes.

• Traffic signs and regulations always take priority over system recommendations.

Introduction

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) in the Volkswagen ID.4 maintains a selected speed while automatically adjusting to traffic conditions. It ensures a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead by regulating acceleration and deceleration.

Does this vehicle have ACC?

The Volkswagen ID.4 is equipped with ACC if adjustable settings are available within the Assistance systems menu of the Infotainment system.

Speed range

The system allows setting speeds above 20 km/h (15 mph), making it suitable for urban and highway driving.

Driving with ACC

The driver can override ACC at any time. Applying the brakes cancels regulation, while acceleration temporarily pauses the system before resuming at the preset speed. When towing a trailer, ACC behavior may be less dynamic in the Volkswagen ID.4.

Driver intervention request

If automatic deceleration is insufficient or system limits are reached, the Volkswagen ID.4 will prompt the driver to brake via visual and audible warnings. Immediate driver attention is required.

ACC in the Volkswagen ID.4 does not replace driver responsibility and functions only within system limits. It may fail to detect certain situations or react incorrectly, increasing the risk of accidents, serious injuries, or death if relied upon excessively.

• Stay attentive and keep full control of the vehicle at all times.

• Adjust speed and following distance according to real driving conditions.
• Respond immediately to driver intervention prompts.
• Brake manually if the vehicle continues moving unintentionally.
