Volkswagen ID.4: Exiting a vehicle while the vehicle's drive system is active

In the Volkswagen ID.4, the ignition and drive system may switch off automatically under certain conditions if the driver exits the vehicle while it is still in drive-ready mode with a selector position engaged (→ Starter button).

This safety feature in the Volkswagen ID.4 is designed to prevent unauthorized use and unintended vehicle movement.

Before leaving the Volkswagen ID.4, always ensure that the vehicle is properly secured against rolling.

If you intend to continue driving shortly after exiting, the ignition must be reactivated, for example by pressing the brake pedal, and the drive system must be switched on again. Always pay attention to any messages displayed in the ID. cockpit.

WARNING

An unattended Volkswagen ID.4 that is ready to drive may begin moving unexpectedly. This can result in accidents and serious injuries.

• Never leave the Volkswagen ID.4 unattended while it is in drive-ready mode.
• Before exiting the vehicle, always ensure that the electromechanical parking brake is fully engaged.
• Make sure all doors, windows, the trunk lid, and the hood are completely closed and securely locked.

Troubleshooting

Valid vehicle key cannot be detected

A corresponding warning message may appear in the Volkswagen ID.4 ID. cockpit.

If the remote key battery is weak or discharged, the Volkswagen ID.4 may not recognize the key.

In this case, perform an emergency start:

1. Place the remote control key in the cup holder or storage compartment in the center console (→ fig. 1).

2. Press the brake pedal or the starter button. The ignition system in the Volkswagen ID.4 will activate.

Vehicle's drive system cannot be connected.

If an unauthorized key is used or there is a system malfunction, the Volkswagen ID.4 will display a warning in the ID. cockpit.

1. Use a valid, authorized vehicle key.

2. If the issue persists, contact an authorized Volkswagen dealer or service facility for inspection.
