Volkswagen ID.4: Operating the Dynamic Road Sign Display

Volkswagen ID.4 2021-2026 (E21) Owner's Manual / Operating the Dynamic Road Sign Display

Speed warning

If the Volkswagen ID.4 detects that the current speed exceeds the recognized speed limit, the Dynamic Road Sign Display system may issue a visual warning or a combined visual and audible alert in the instrument cluster.

The speed warning threshold can be adjusted or completely deactivated via the Assistance systems menu in the Infotainment system (→ Vehicle settings menu). The warning threshold can be set to 0 km/h, 5 km/h, or 10 km/h above the detected speed limit.

Trailer mode

In the Volkswagen ID.4 equipped with a factory-installed trailer hitch and connected trailer electronics, the system can display traffic regulations specific to towing, such as speed limits and overtaking restrictions for vehicles with trailers.

These settings can be configured in the vehicle settings menu. The maximum permitted speed can be adjusted in increments of 10 km/h within a range of approximately 60 km/h to 130 km/h.

If the selected speed exceeds the legal limit for towing in the region where the Volkswagen ID.4 is being operated, the system will automatically display the applicable legal speed, such as 55 mph (88 km/h) in certain regions like California.

Introduction

Number of seats

The Volkswagen ID.4 is designed with five seats: two front seats and a rear bench accommodating three passengers, ensuring both comfort and safety for all occupants.

Each seating position in the Volkswagen ID.4 is equipped with an integrated safety belt, which is essential for occupant protection.

Incorrect seating positions can significantly reduce the effectiveness of safety systems such as seat belts and airbags. This can lead to severe or even fatal injuries. The risk is particularly increased if airbags deploy while occupants are not seated properly. The driver of the Volkswagen ID.4 is responsible for ensuring that all passengers, especially children, are correctly seated and properly secured.

WARNING

Improper seating positions in the Volkswagen ID.4 can increase the risk of serious or fatal injuries during sudden maneuvers, braking, collisions, or airbag deployment.

  • All occupants must always sit in the correct position before the vehicle begins moving and remain properly seated during the journey. Safety belts must always be fastened.
  • The number of passengers must not exceed the number of available seats equipped with safety belts.
  • Avoid reclining the seat backrest excessively.
  • Keep feet in the footwell at all times. Never place feet on seats, the dashboard, or outside the vehicle. Improper positioning may increase injury risk if safety systems are activated.
