Settings in the Charging menu

  1. Currently active settings or detected charging location for the Volkswagen ID.4.
  2. End time of the charging process or scheduled departure time.

    Or: stationary air conditioning scheduled for departure (depending on vehicle equipment).

  3. Touch control for adjusting the maximum battery charge level.

    E-route planning symbol: automatically calculated recommended position for optimal efficiency.

  4. Display of the selected maximum battery charge level.
  5. Option to stop or restart the charging process.
  6. Function to change the charging mode.
  7. Minimum battery charge level setting.
  8. Display of charging speed (km/h or km/min) and charging power in kW.
  9. Current battery charge level and estimated driving range of the Volkswagen ID.4.

Many of these displays and settings are also shown automatically on the charging information screen when the charging connector is inserted into the Volkswagen ID.4.

It is also normal for charging power to fluctuate during the charging process.

Settings in the Setup menu

1. Tap HOME in the Infotainment system.

2. Tap Volkswagen ID.4 charging menu icon Charging.

3. Tap Volkswagen ID.4 charging setup settings icon Setup.

  • Battery Care Mode (→ Battery capacity): helps extend battery life in the Volkswagen ID.4 by limiting daily charging levels.
  • Automatically releasing the AC charging cable: once AC charging is complete, the connector unlocks automatically and can be removed immediately (availability depends on region).
  • Reducing AC charging current: limits charging current (e.g., 6 A or 8 A depending on country) to prevent overload when other electrical devices share the same circuit.

Plug & Charge function

The Volkswagen ID.4 supports Plug & Charge technology, allowing the high-voltage battery to begin charging automatically when connected to a compatible charging station or wall box, without manual authentication.

This feature depends on vehicle equipment and regional availability.

Requirements

✓ The charging station supports Plug & Charge according to ISO 15118.

✓ A valid electricity contract is stored via the We Connect ID. app in the Volkswagen ID.4.

✓ Location sharing is enabled in the Infotainment system.

✓ Plug & Charge is activated in the Volkswagen ID.4 settings.

✓ An active We Connect service contract is available.

Switching on and off

1. Tap Volkswagen ID.4 plug and charge settings toggle Settings in the Charging menu.

2. Activate or deactivate the Plug & Charge function.

The Plug & Charge feature in the Volkswagen ID.4 can be managed by both the primary user and guest users. However, only the primary user has full control to enable or disable the function.
