Volkswagen ID.4: Securing systems
In the Volkswagen ID.4, different securing systems are used to ensure the safe and reliable installation of child restraints. The availability and type of system may vary depending on the country and vehicle equipment.
Only the approved securing systems described here should be used to install child restraints in the Volkswagen ID.4 to guarantee maximum safety and compliance with manufacturer recommendations.
Overview of securing systems
- LATCH/UAS: In the Volkswagen ID.4, LATCH/UAS is a standardized and highly secure system that allows quick installation of child restraints. The ISOFIX anchorage system provides a rigid connection between the child seat and the vehicle body, significantly improving stability.
The child restraint is equipped with two rigid connectors or attachment arms. These connectors lock securely into the LATCH/UAS lower anchor points, which are located between the seat cushion and the backrest of the rear seats (→ Child restraint with LATCH/UAS or i-Size). For additional safety, the ISOFIX system may be supplemented with a top tether strap or a support base where required.
- Three-point safety belt: In some cases, especially when ISOFIX is not available, child restraints in the Volkswagen ID.4 can be secured using a standard three-point safety belt (→ Child restraint with a safety belt). However, ISOFIX is generally the preferred method for improved stability.
Additional fasteners:
- Top Tether: This upper anchoring strap is routed over the rear seat backrest and attached to a designated anchor point using a hook. In the Volkswagen ID.4, top tether anchor points are clearly marked with an anchor symbol (→ Child restraint with the upper strap).
- Support base: Certain child restraints use a support leg that rests on the vehicle floor to prevent forward tipping during a collision. This system enhances safety and stability. Only use child restraints with a support base in approved seating positions, such as the front passenger seat (if permitted) and outer rear seats →
.

WARNING
Children who are not properly secured in the Volkswagen ID.4 are at risk of serious or fatal injuries.
- Always follow the child restraint manufacturer’s instructions for installation and securing the child.
WARNING
Incorrect installation or use of a support base can lead to severe injuries.
- Ensure the support base is properly installed and firmly positioned on the vehicle floor.
WARNING
The anchorage points in the Volkswagen ID.4 are specifically designed for child restraint systems only.
- Never use these anchorage points for safety belts, cargo, or other equipment, as this may compromise safety.
