Safety instructions

WARNING

Parking assistance systems in the Volkswagen ID.4 are designed to support the driver but cannot replace attention and awareness. They operate within physical and technical limitations and may not detect all obstacles or situations.

  • Always monitor your surroundings when parking the Volkswagen ID.4.
  • Pay close attention to children, animals, and small obstacles.
  • Do not rely solely on system displays; remain focused on traffic conditions.
  • The system may not respond if the vehicle approaches obstacles too quickly.
  • Adapt speed and driving style to weather, visibility, and road conditions.

NOTICE

When maneuvering in tight parking spaces, obstacles may not be detected accurately, which could result in damage to the Volkswagen ID.4.

  • Maintain a safe distance of approximately 50 cm (20 inches) from walls and structures.

Sensor and camera boundaries

The Volkswagen ID.4 uses a combination of ultrasonic sensors, radar systems, and cameras to monitor its surroundings. These systems have inherent limitations that must be considered → :

  • Some objects may not be detected, such as tow bars, narrow poles, fences, or very low or high obstacles → Volkswagen ID.4 parking sensors limitation detecting small or unusual objects.
  • There are detection blind spots where objects or people may not be recognized.
  • Dirt, ice, water, or cleaning residues can impair sensor performance or create false detections.
  • External noise and reflective surfaces may interfere with sensor signals.
  • Small or thin objects may not be displayed correctly due to screen resolution or lighting conditions.
  • Cameras display two-dimensional images, making it difficult to judge depth or identify protruding obstacles.

Volkswagen ID.4 practice parking systems in safe environment recommendationVolkswagen recommends practicing parking with the Volkswagen ID.4 in a safe, traffic-free environment to better understand system behavior.
