Volkswagen ID.4: Fitting and removing the screen separator behind the front seats

Volkswagen ID.4 2021-2026 (E21) Owner's Manual / Fitting and removing the screen separator behind the front seats

The screen separator in the Volkswagen ID.4 is designed to significantly enhance safety by preventing loose objects from being thrown from the luggage compartment into the passenger area, especially during sudden braking or evasive maneuvers.

Depending on your cargo configuration, the screen separator in the Volkswagen ID.4 can be installed either behind the rear bench seat (→ Net partition behind the rear bench seat) or directly behind the front seats → fig. 1, providing flexible load protection.

3. Move the front seats into an upright and locked position, positioning them as close as possible to the separator.

4. Attach one hook of the upper crossbar to a roof holder → fig. 1 -1-.

5. Slightly compress both ends of the crossbar and secure the second hook into the opposite roof mount.

Tensioning the screen separator

1. Pull the fastening straps backward until the screen separator is firmly tensioned → fig. 1 -3- → Volkswagen ID.4 tightening screen separator straps illustration.

2. Recheck the tension after adjusting the position of the front seats to ensure optimal safety in the Volkswagen ID.4.

WARNING

The fastening eyelets located on the B-pillars in the Volkswagen ID.4 are specifically designed only for securing the screen separator. Misusing these points for cargo restraint can lead to severe or fatal injuries.

  • Use the B-pillar fastening eyelets exclusively for the screen separator and not for securing loads.

Removing the net partition

1. Release the fastening straps → fig. 1 -3- by lifting the buckles → fig. 1 -4-.

2. Unhook the lower hooks from the B-pillar fastening eyelets → fig. 1 -2-.

3. Compress both ends of the upper crossbar and carefully remove it.

4. Pull the separator slightly backward and remove it downward from the roof mounts → fig. 1 -1-.

5. Press the release button on the crossbar joint and fold the separator.

6. Roll it up and place it back into its storage bag.

7. If necessary, return the rear seat backrests to their upright and locked position.

WARNING

In the Volkswagen ID.4, unsecured cargo can become a dangerous projectile during sudden braking or collisions, potentially causing serious or fatal injuries.

  • Always inspect the screen separator for damage before installation.
  • Never use a damaged separator.
  • Ensure all seat backrests in front of the separator are upright and securely engaged.
  • Verify that all hooks are correctly attached after installation.
  • Check regularly that the separator remains properly tensioned.
  • Secure all cargo even when the separator is installed.
  • Ensure no passengers are located behind the separator while the vehicle is in motion.

NOTICE

Improper attachment of the net partition in the Volkswagen ID.4 may result in damage to the interior components.

  • Always use only the designated mounting points for installing the screen separator.
