Function Check

When the ignition is switched on in the Volkswagen ID.4, the yellow indicator light in the instrument cluster briefly illuminates as part of a system self-test. This function check ensures that the airbag system and related safety components are operational. After a few seconds, the light will turn off if no faults are detected.

Airbag system or safety belt pretensioners malfunction

If the yellow indicator light in the Volkswagen ID.4 remains illuminated, this indicates that a malfunction has been detected in one or more airbags or safety belt pretensioners. In some cases, an additional warning message may appear in the instrument cluster display.

This situation requires immediate attention, as the effectiveness of the vehicle’s safety systems may be reduced.

Airbag system or safety belt pretensioners deactivated with diagnostic device

In the Volkswagen ID.4, if the airbag system or safety belt pretensioners have been intentionally deactivated using a diagnostic device, the yellow indicator light will illuminate for approximately four seconds after the ignition is switched on and then blink for around twelve seconds. A corresponding message may also appear in the instrument cluster display.

This indicates that at least one safety component has been switched off and may not provide protection in the event of an accident.
