Volkswagen ID.4: Installing the rear towing eye

As with the front, the rear towing eye mount on the Volkswagen ID.4 is typically hidden behind a cover in the rear bumper, depending on the vehicle configuration and regional specifications.

1. Before towing, verify that the Volkswagen ID.4 has a threaded mount for the towing eye at the rear.

2. Follow all safety instructions and towing guidelines provided in the manual.

3. If unsure, arrange towing via an authorized Volkswagen service partner.

The towing eye must always be available inside the Volkswagen ID.4 → .

Using an unsuitable towing eye may damage the Volkswagen ID.4 structure or towing components.

• Only use the designated towing eye from the vehicle tool kit or an approved replacement.

Installing the rear towing eye

1. Remove the towing eye from the Volkswagen ID.4 tool kit.

2. Press the marked area on the rear bumper cover to release it → fig. 1.

3. Remove the cover carefully and store it safely → .

4. Screw the towing eye fully into the threaded mount → fig. 2 → .

Ensure the towing eye is tightened securely using a suitable tool if required.

5. After towing, remove the towing eye by turning it in the opposite direction.

6. Refit the cover until it clicks into place.

7. Clean and store the towing eye back in the Volkswagen ID.4 luggage compartment.

NOTICE

If the towing eye is not securely fastened, it may detach under load, leading to damage or unsafe towing conditions.

• Always ensure proper installation before towing.

Vehicles with a trailer hitch

In Volkswagen ID.4 models equipped with a factory-installed trailer hitch, a threaded towing eye mount is not provided at the rear.

1. In such cases, extend or install the ball hitch and use it as the towing connection point.

NOTICE

Using an incompatible tow bar may damage the trailer hitch or the Volkswagen ID.4.

• Always use a tow bar specifically designed for ball hitch mounting.
• If a suitable tow bar is not available, use a tow rope as an alternative.
