Limits of the sensor system

In the Volkswagen ID.4, the Lane Assist system uses a forward-facing camera mounted behind the windshield to detect lane markings and help maintain proper lane positioning. Lane markings not detected or not correctly recognized

The Lane Assist system in the Volkswagen ID.4 may not always correctly identify lane markings. If lane markings are missing, unclear, or incorrectly interpreted, the system may fail to intervene when necessary or may activate unexpectedly. In addition to general camera limitations, this can occur in several common driving situations:

• If lane markings are absent, faded, or poorly visible.
• During highly dynamic or aggressive driving behavior.
• When driving on roads that are not highways or are poorly developed.
• On uneven road surfaces, complex road structures, or near objects that resemble lane markings.
• In situations involving glare, reflections, or strong light sources that affect camera visibility.

Drivers of the Volkswagen ID.4 must always stay alert and be ready to override any unintended steering intervention immediately. If necessary, Lane Assist should be temporarily deactivated to ensure full manual control in challenging conditions.

Lane Assist not available

Lane Assist in the Volkswagen ID.4 may become inactive or unavailable under the following conditions, indicating that the system cannot reliably support the driver:

• When the vehicle speed is below approximately 55 km/h (around 30 mph).
• If no lane markings are detected by the camera system.
• When lanes are too narrow or road curvature is too tight.
• Temporarily during very dynamic driving situations.
• When turn signals are activated prior to a manual lane change.
• If the driver applies strong steering input during system intervention.
• If the driver does not respond to system prompts or warnings.

For optimal performance, the Lane Assist system in the Volkswagen ID.4 should be used primarily on well-marked roads and highways. Even with advanced driver assistance features, the Volkswagen ID.4 requires continuous driver attention and responsibility to ensure safe vehicle operation in all driving environments.
