Volkswagen ID.4: Limits of the Driver Alert System

The Driver Alert System in the Volkswagen ID.4 is designed to support driver awareness, but like all assistance technologies, it has certain functional limitations. Under specific driving or environmental conditions, the effectiveness of the system may be reduced or the system may not function at all.

The following conditions may limit or prevent proper operation of the Driver Alert System in the Volkswagen ID.4:

• Driving speeds below approximately 60 km/h (approximately 37 mph).
• Driving speeds exceeding approximately 200 km/h (approximately 125 mph).
• Winding or highly curved roads.
• Uneven or poor-quality road surfaces.
• Adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog, or snow.
• Construction zones or temporary road changes.
• Sporty or aggressive driving behavior.
• Driving with heavy loads or long trailers.
• Situations where the driver is significantly distracted.

Momentary dozing:

Please note that the Volkswagen ID.4 Driver Alert System is not designed to provide an immediate warning if the driver briefly falls asleep. This highlights the importance of maintaining full attention while driving.

The Driver Alert System will reset automatically in the following situations:

• When the ignition is switched off.
• When the driver removes the safety belt and opens the driver’s door.
• When the vehicle remains stationary for longer than approximately 15 minutes.

During extended low-speed journeys (below approximately 60 km/h), the Volkswagen ID.4 system recalibrates its fatigue assessment. Once higher speeds are resumed, it begins monitoring driving behavior again from a new baseline.
