Switching on and starting the regulation function

To activate Travel Assist in the Volkswagen ID.4, the system must be used while driving forward with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) already switched on. This ensures that the Volkswagen ID.4 can seamlessly transition into semi-automated driving mode.

1. While driving forward with ACC active, press the Volkswagen ID.4 Travel Assist activation button on steering wheel button on the multi-function steering wheel.

The Volkswagen ID.4 will switch from ACC mode to Travel Assist, enabling both speed regulation and adaptive lane guidance.

Depending on the current driving conditions, the Volkswagen ID.4 will enter one of the following Travel Assist system states:

  • If ACC is already regulating, Travel Assist in the Volkswagen ID.4 will maintain the current speed and the predefined distance to the vehicle ahead (system status inactive for speed changes).

At the same time, the Volkswagen ID.4 actively keeps the vehicle centered within the lane through steering inputs when clear road markings are detected (system status active).

  • If ACC is not actively regulating, Travel Assist in the Volkswagen ID.4 will be switched on but will remain inactive until suitable driving conditions are met.

1. Press the Volkswagen ID.4 Travel Assist confirm or activate regulation button button.

Travel Assist in the Volkswagen ID.4 will then adjust automatically between active and inactive states depending on the driving situation and detected road conditions.

The corresponding indicator or warning light will appear in the instrument cluster display of the Volkswagen ID.4, along with a message informing the driver about the current system status.

Canceling the regulation function

1. Press the Volkswagen ID.4 cancel Travel Assist regulation buttonbutton briefly.

Or: Press the brake pedal.

When Travel Assist is canceled in the Volkswagen ID.4, the previously set following distance remains stored and can be reused when the system is reactivated.

Changing to ACC

1. Press the Volkswagen ID.4 switch from Travel Assist to Adaptive Cruise Control button button on the multi-function steering wheel.

The Volkswagen ID.4 will switch from Travel Assist back to Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), adjusting its behavior based on the current traffic situation and driver inputs.

Adjusting further settings

Additional adjustments for Travel Assist in the Volkswagen ID.4 follow the same logic as the ACC system (→ Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)). This includes modifying speed, distance, and responsiveness, allowing drivers to personalize their driving experience for comfort and safety.

For optimal use, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with both Travel Assist and ACC functions in the Volkswagen ID.4, as their combined operation provides a smoother and more efficient driving experience, especially on highways and long-distance journeys.
