Volkswagen ID.4: Trunk lid with Easy Open motion sensor

If a valid key is near the rear of the Volkswagen ID.4, the trunk lid can be opened hands-free using a foot gesture.

1. Position your foot under the center of the rear bumper.

2. Move your foot quickly toward the bumper → fig. 1.

3. Withdraw your foot immediately.

Turn signals will flash to confirm activation, and the trunk lid of the Volkswagen ID.4 will open automatically.

Activating or deactivating the Easy Open function

The Easy Open feature in the Volkswagen ID.4 can be configured via the Infotainment system:

1. Open the Vehicle menu.

2. Navigate to settings and enable or disable Easy Open.

Or:

1. Select the Central locking menu.

2. Scroll and toggle Easy Open.

When Easy Open is active, Easy Close functionality is also enabled.

This feature is available only when Keyless Access is active in the Volkswagen ID.4.

The Easy Open function may be triggered unintentionally in the following situations:

• During charging when cables pass near the rear bumper.
• When sweeping movements occur beneath the bumper.
• When exposed to strong water jets or steam.
• During service or maintenance work near the rear area.
• When nearby objects such as gates move close to the bumper.

CAUTION

If a valid key is detected near the Volkswagen ID.4, the Easy Open system may activate unintentionally, causing the trunk lid to open and potentially injure people or damage objects.

• Deactivate Easy Open when parking in confined spaces or near obstacles.
• Do not leave keys unattended near the rear of the vehicle.
• Disable Easy Open before maintenance or washing the Volkswagen ID.4.
• Turn off the system before installing accessories such as bike racks or trailers.

For optimal usability and safety, regularly check and maintain all trunk lid mechanisms and sensors in your Volkswagen ID.4.
