Volkswagen ID.4: Operating the windshield wiper lever

In the Volkswagen ID.4, the windshield wipers operate only when the ignition is switched on and all doors, the hood, and the trunk lid are properly closed. Move the wiper lever into the desired position → :

1. Wipers switched off.
2. Interval wiping or rain sensor mode. The wiping frequency adapts automatically to vehicle speed in the Volkswagen ID.4.
3. Low wiping speed.
4. High wiping speed.
5. Single wipe. Holding the lever increases wiping speed.
6. Pull the lever to activate the washer system. During operation, the Climatronic system in the Volkswagen ID.4 temporarily switches to recirculation mode to prevent washer fluid odors from entering the cabin.

1. Control switch for adjusting interval levels or rain sensor sensitivity.

Move the lever to control the rear window wiper in the Volkswagen ID.4 → :

7. Interval wiping for the rear window (approximately every six seconds).
8. Press the lever to activate the rear window washer system.

WARNING

In the Volkswagen ID.4, using washer fluid without adequate freeze protection can result in fluid freezing on the windshield, significantly reducing visibility and increasing the risk of accidents.

• Always use washer fluid with appropriate antifreeze properties in cold weather.
• Do not operate the washer system on a frozen windshield without first warming it using the climate control system.

WARNING

Worn or contaminated wiper blades in the Volkswagen ID.4 can impair visibility and increase accident risk.

• Replace damaged or worn wiper blades promptly to maintain optimal visibility.

NOTICE

Improper operation of the windshield wipers in the Volkswagen ID.4 may damage the windshield, wiper blades, or wiper motor.

• Ensure the wiper lever is in its default position before starting the vehicle.
• Remove snow and ice from the windshield and wipers before operation.
• Carefully free frozen wiper blades before use.
• Never operate the wipers on a dry windshield.

The wiper speed automatically reduces when the Volkswagen ID.4 is stationary.

When a front door is opened while stationary, the windshield wipers return to their rest position and switch off temporarily.

Certain wiper settings can be stored in driver profiles and automatically applied when switching users.

In cold conditions, activating the service position can help free frozen wiper blades more easily.

Wiper function

Automatic rear window wiping

The rear wiper in the Volkswagen ID.4 activates automatically when the front wipers are running and reverse gear is engaged. This function can be enabled or disabled in the Infotainment system settings (→ Vehicle settings menu).

Heated washer nozzles

The Volkswagen ID.4 features heated washer nozzles that automatically prevent freezing. Heating is regulated based on ambient temperature and is activated when the ignition is on.

Only the washer nozzles are heated, not the washer fluid lines.

Cleaning system of the Rear View Camera system

The rear view camera cleaning system in the Volkswagen ID.4 works in conjunction with the rear washer system to ensure a clear camera view.

If visibility remains limited after repeated cleaning cycles, manually clean the camera lens to maintain optimal performance (→ Rear view), (→ Vehicle care exterior).
